Foods to avoid if facing high blood pressure

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is an ailment with several triggers. Some of these triggers come from what we eat and drink, activities, associated illnesses, and a lot more. Most people facing high blood pressure make a common mistake of not adjusting their diet while searching for solutions.

Unknowingly to most people, some common foods around us could spike the blood pressure level and lead to complications. That is why we have gathered this list of foods and other harmful things to avoid. They include:

Sodium (majorly present in anything salt)

Sodium is a substance found in salt and may cause your blood pressure to increase. When you consume too much salt, which contains sodium, your body holds extra water to “wash” the salt from your body. The added water puts stress on your heart and blood vessels, and this causes blood pressure to rise.

What to avoid

Table salt, choose foods marked “sodium-free,” “low sodium,” and “unsalted.”

Butter and margarine

Processed foods like lunch meats, sausages, bacon, chips, peanuts, hams, etc.

Canned soups, bouillon, dried soup mixes, and deli meats

Condiments (catsup, soy sauce, ketchup, salad dressings).

Frozen and boxed mixes for potatoes, rice, pasta, and even frozen pizza.

Snack foods (pretzels, popcorn, peanuts, chips).

Alcohol

Excessive amounts increase blood pressure to dangerous levels. If possible, avoid any form of alcohol for the time being as this is more advisable.

Coffee

Caffeine is a stimulate found in Coffee, and this keeps the human system awake after consumption. This stimulant can temporarily increase blood pressure.

Please avoid Coffee!

Refined sugar

Excess sugar leads to more fat creation in the body. Sugar aside, other junky foods contribute to unnecessary weight gain, and being overweight increases blood pressure. Ensure you avoid refined sugar, whole milk dairy products, and junk (fattening) foods.

We know that managing blood pressure requires sacrifices, but it is better to make these sacrifices now than let your system make them for you later—taking you away from family and loved ones.
